German towns promote cycling with 'Stadtradeln' climate campaigns

In Mellendorf, the Wedemark Gymnasium organized a three‑week "Stadtradeln" competition in 2026, urging students to log as many bicycle kilometres as possible. Participants together recorded 31,147 km – enough to circle the Saarland ninety times – and the class with the highest total received ice as a prize. Individual winners were also recognised, with top cyclists reaching over 1,400 km.

Meanwhile, the town of Romrod announced its sixth "Stadtradeln" campaign, running from 10 August to 30 August 2026. The initiative, coordinated by the local Mehrgenerationenhaus, invites all residents to register online or by paper form, form teams, and track kilometres via an app. The program includes wheelchair users and hand‑bike riders, emphasizing inclusive, climate‑friendly mobility for the community.
