German TV Anchor Susanne Daubner Spotlights Youth Word Phenomenon

Susanne Daubner, the 65‑year‑old presenter of Germany’s Tagesschau, has become an internet phenomenon by presenting the annual “Jugendwort des Jahres” (Youth Word of the Year). In a recent video she introduced candidates such as “67”, “Gute Käse” and “Crashout”, performed a surprise singing segment, and the Instagram post of the segment received over one million likes.

Daubner said she did not anticipate the hype, recalling a similar surge in 2021, and noted that many young viewers still need explanations for some of the terms. The voting for the 2026 youth word runs until 28 August, after which the top three will be announced on 10 October.
