German Volunteer Fire Brigades Recognized and Elect New Leaders

In Bad Tabarz, 40 members of the volunteer fire brigade were entered into the municipality's golden book, a distinction usually reserved for world champions, presidents and best‑selling authors. The ceremony, attended by over 70 firefighters and relatives, was highlighted by Mayor David Ortmann’s praise for the brigade’s swift response times and dedication to community safety.

In the nearby village of Wiesenfeld, the volunteer fire brigade elected a new leadership team at its annual meeting. Daniel Thüring became the new chief, with Sandro Helmer as his deputy and Verena Semmler confirmed as youth warden. The gathering also included numerous promotions and acknowledgments of the brigade’s recent renovations, equipment upgrades and ongoing recruitment efforts, underscoring the vital role of small‑town fire services in rural Germany.
