German zoos offer volunteer opportunities and sponsorship programs

Zoo Schwerin is seeking volunteers for its public autumn cleaning event scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00. Participants will assist in collecting leaves and cleaning animal enclosures to prepare the grounds for winter. The zoo will provide tools such as rakes and shovels, though volunteers are asked to bring their own gardening gloves. Participants, including children aged ten and older accompanied by adults, will receive free zoo admission for the day and warm soup and drinks following the work session.

Meanwhile, Zoo Neuwied is promoting animal and tree sponsorship programs as a way for supporters to contribute to the care and maintenance of its animals and grounds. Sponsorships are available for various species, including lions, penguins, and reptiles, with partial sponsorships starting at 50 euros. Patrons receive a certificate and invitations to exclusive events twice a year. Tree sponsorships are also available for 50 euros per year to support the upkeep of the zoo's greenery.
