Germany adds 12.63 GW of solar capacity in first nine months of 2026
Germany added 12.63 GW of solar capacity during the first nine months of 2026, bringing the country’s cumulative registered solar capacity to 130.68 GW across approximately 6.4 million units.
Data from the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) shows that September 2026 saw a decline in net solar capacity additions to 1.23 GW, down from 1.64 GW in August. This monthly figure represents the lowest level of solar expansion since February 2026. The decline was driven largely by a significant drop in ground-mounted solar park installations, which fell to 479 MW in September compared to 1.054 GW in August.
Building-mounted systems remained relatively stable, contributing 554 MW in September. On a regional level, Bavaria led solar additions with 2.97 GW, followed by Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to solar, Germany added 3.17 GW of onshore wind and 1.81 GW of offshore wind capacity during the same nine-month period.
