Germany advances judicial digitalization with AI and cloud initiatives

German judicial authorities are advancing digitalization through the implementation of artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. In Brandenburg, the Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs has introduced the juris KI-Suite. Following a four-week trial period, the tool is being deployed to assist employees with legal research by linking case law, statutes, commentaries, and specialist literature. Minister Benjamin Grimm stated that the technology is intended to support rather than replace staff, emphasizing that final legal assessments remain the responsibility of human officials.

Simultaneously, efforts to establish a nationwide justice cloud are underway. Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony have become among the first federal states to connect to the new justice network. This initiative aims to allow courts and public prosecutor's offices across Germany to utilize standardized software via a centralized cloud, reducing the need for individual states to procure and operate separate systems. A first version of this cloud infrastructure is expected to be available by mid-2027.
