Germany advances renewable energy via AI forecasting and battery storage

Developments in renewable energy technology and infrastructure are advancing in Germany through AI-driven forecasting and enhanced storage capabilities.

In Bavaria, LEW-Solarparks and the Munich-based startup Nuno Labs have implemented a project using AI to monitor cloud movements. This technology allows for precise solar power feed-in predictions up to 120 minutes in advance, providing greater planning security for grid operators. The project was recognized with the Bavarian Energy Prize in the category of “Digitalization in the Energy Sector” in July 2026.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the state is providing 112,204 euros in funding to Brenneke & Meister PV GbR for the acquisition of two stationary battery storage units at a photovoltaic park in Ahrensburg. The new storage systems, with a combined usable capacity of 550 kWh, will allow the facility to store surplus solar energy for local businesses, supporting electric vehicle charging points and heat pump operations while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
