Germany allocates €135.5 bn to transport infrastructure through 2030

The Federal Ministry of Transport announced that total investment in Germany’s transport network will remain at €135.5 billion through 2030. The package includes €44.4 bn for roads, €84.2 bn for rail and €6.8 bn for waterways. More than half of the funding comes from the Special Fund for Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality, about 17 % from the defence ministry, and the remainder from the ministry’s own budget. From 2028 onward, waterway investments will be financed by the special fund at roughly €1.2 bn per year. A modest €1.2 bn cut is expected next year as all ministries must achieve a 1 % saving target.

The state of Hessen will allocate roughly €850 million to its Landesstraßen between 2026 and 2030. Of this, €383 million is dedicated to 333 priority renovation projects covering about 450 km of roads, with a focus on bridge and structure repairs. The federal special fund will contribute an additional €140 million up to 2028 to support these measures.
