Germany allocates 14 million euros for emissions-free inland shipping
The German Federal Ministry of Transport has announced a funding program of up to 14 million euros to promote emissions-free inland shipping. This initiative is part of the ‘Green Inland Shipping’ program, specifically under the funding line for the regional shift of public transport and commercial traffic.
The funding aims to integrate waterways more effectively into modern transport infrastructure by shifting regional goods and mobility flows from roads and rails to water. The support covers the acquisition of new vessels with emission-free propulsion systems, the retrofitting of existing ships, and the development of essential port infrastructure, such as charging stations and hydrogen refueling points.
Applications for the funding can be submitted starting September 1, 2026, with a deadline of October 19, 2026. Eligible applicants include companies, municipalities, and other economically active entities in Germany.
