Germany and Australia advance renewable energy through new tenders

Germany and Australia are both advancing renewable energy capacity through new tender processes.

In Germany, the federal grid regulator Bundesnetzagentur reported that its July 2026 auction for ground-mounted solar PV installations was oversubscribed. The auction drew 401 bids totaling 3,170 MW, significantly exceeding the target volume of 2,135 MW. This high level of competition resulted in lower average award prices. Of the submitted bids, 261 were successful, while 48 were disqualified.

In Australia, Federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen has launched Tender 11 under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). This tender seeks 1.8 gigawatts of new wind and solar capacity, specifically targeting the needs of Western Australia as it prepares to decommission its last coal-fired generators by 2029. This new round will be the first to require participation in the government’s Developer Rating Scheme (DRS), aimed at increasing transparency regarding the track record and conduct of renewable energy developers.
