Germany and Switzerland advance post-quantum cryptography for government security

Government administrations in Germany and Switzerland are addressing the security challenges posed by the rise of quantum computing through the adoption of post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

In Germany, the digitalization of federal and state authorities requires secure networks to protect sensitive information and ensure digital sovereignty. Companies like Adva Network Security are developing BSI-approved encryption solutions designed to be ‘PQC-ready,’ allowing for a gradual migration to quantum-safe standards without requiring a complete overhaul of existing infrastructure.

In Switzerland, the Federal Council is responding to parliamentary motions aimed at preparing federal IT systems for quantum-safe encryption. These motions, introduced by members of the Council of States and the National Council, call for a national roadmap to manage the transition to post-quantum cryptography to ensure long-term data security.
