Germany and Switzerland record extreme speeding violations

In June 2026, traffic police in Weiden, Germany, caught two drivers traveling far above the 100 km/h limit—one at 158 km/h on the B 22 near Tännesberg and another at 174 km/h on the B 470 near Pressath. Both received hefty fines, points on their driving records and mandatory licence bans of one to three months. The Weiden police inspected over 107,000 vehicles in the districts of Tirschenreuth and Neustadt/WN, issuing 482 citations, 15 driving bans and 904 warnings.

On 19 July 2026, the Vaud cantonal police in Switzerland measured a 48‑year‑old motorcyclist travelling 181 km/h on the Route du Marchairuz, well above the 80 km/h limit. The rider's licence was seized, a criminal proceeding was launched and Swiss law allows a prison term of up to four years, a licence withdrawal of at least two years and possible seizure of the vehicle for such offences.
