Germany and UK urge cooperation on Kosovo missing persons cases

The German Embassy in Kosovo has called on Serbia to cooperate fully with Kosovar institutions to clarify the fate of persons missing from the 1999 war. This includes providing access to relevant documentation, specifically regarding the 37th Motorized Brigade of the former Yugoslav Army, which is suspected of involvement in massacres in Drenica and other parts of Kosovo.

In a related development, the United Kingdom expressed support for Kosovar authorities conducting excavations in Zubin Potok. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that remains recovered during a four-week excavation, estimated to belong to at least 23 individuals, may correspond to the ‘Intellectuals Group’ who were allegedly abducted and killed by Serbian forces in April 1999.

Final identification of the remains is expected to take several months as they undergo forensic examinations and DNA testing. The German Embassy emphasized that Serbia should cooperate with its Kosovar counterparts in ongoing investigations and judicial processes in accordance with the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance.
