Germany approves funding for 12 Bundeswehr procurement programs

The German Bundestag's Budget Committee has approved funding for 12 separate procurement programs for the Bundeswehr. These programs aim to modernize the armed forces' capabilities across various domains.

Key components of the approved spending include the acquisition of AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles for F-35A Lightning II and Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The naval sector will see the deployment of a maritime version of the IRIS-T SLM air defense system on four F125 Baden-Württemberg class frigates. This system is being developed in collaboration with Diehl Defence to enhance the vessels' defense against drones and cruise missiles, integrating with Lockheed Martin's Combat Management System and Hensoldt's AESA radar.

Other approved programs include the purchase of 15 fast assault boats, new digital radio stations for Fennek 4x4 reconnaissance vehicles as part of the D-LBO battlefield management system, and short-range air defense systems integrated with Boxer Drive Module chassis.
