Germany broadcasting fee reduction for individuals with RF disability marker
In Germany, individuals with a severe disability marked with the identifier ‘RF’ in their disability pass are eligible for a reduced monthly broadcasting fee (Rundfunkbeitrag). Instead of the full standard rate, these individuals pay one-third of the amount, which currently equates to 6.12 euros per month.
The ‘RF’ designation is granted to people who, due to their disability, are permanently unable to participate in public events. This includes certain deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals, as well as blind or severely visually impaired persons meeting specific criteria regarding their degree of disability.
It is important to distinguish between a reduction and a full exemption. While the ‘RF’ mark provides a reduction to one-third of the fee, a complete exemption from the broadcasting fee is tied to different requirements, such as receiving specific social benefits or meeting strict medical definitions like deaf-blindness.
