Fire on Theodor‑Heuss Bridge temporarily closes A6 lane in Mannheim

A brush fire broke out on a slope beneath the Theodor‑Heuss Bridge in Mannheim, producing smoke that rose onto the A6 motorway. The right-hand lane toward Sandhofen was closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze, which covered an area roughly the size of a football field. Police are investigating the cause, and damage assessments are pending.

Earlier that evening the nearby Konrad‑Adenauer Bridge between Ludwigshafen and Mannheim had also been fully closed after a suspicious object was found on a bridge pier; it was later identified as not being a bomb and was removed.

Both incidents were managed by the Mannheim police headquarters and local fire services, and traffic restrictions were lifted once the fire was fully extinguished.
