Germany confirms psychotherapist fee cut, sparking legal challenge and doctors' protests

The Federal Ministry of Health in Germany has declared the planned reduction of psychotherapist fees legally sound. The adjustment combines a nominal 4.5% cut with a retroactive 14% surcharge, resulting in an effective 2.3% reduction for the current year. The Kassenärztliche Bundesvereinigung and psychotherapists have announced that they will take legal action before the Berlin‑Brandenburg State Social Court.

At the same time, German general practitioners' associations have launched a nationwide protest campaign against the broader GKV Savings Act. The campaign includes an email drive urging patients to contact their Bundestag representatives, warning that the law threatens primary‑care provision, could lead to fewer practices, longer waiting times, and cuts to services such as organ‑donation counseling and electronic patient‑record remuneration.
