Germany considers ordering more A400M aircraft for Luftwaffe
Germany is considering the acquisition of additional A400M transport aircraft to modernize the Luftwaffe. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius indicated during a visit to Bremen that a new order may be forthcoming to replace older aircraft that lack necessary tactical capabilities.
Reports suggest the Ministry of Defense is looking to order between 10 and 20 additional units, with 16 being a specific figure under discussion. While Airbus has declined to confirm ongoing negotiations, stating they do not comment on client discussions, the move follows a history of technical difficulties and availability issues with earlier models delivered to the German Air Force.
This potential order follows a period of fluctuation in Germany's commitment to the program. In 2011, the country had reduced its order to 53 units, but technical challenges and subsequent improvements to the aircraft's specifications have led to renewed interest in expanding the fleet.
