Germany driving license point system and penalties
In Germany, traffic violations can lead to fines and points recorded in the Flensburg driving register. The severity of the penalty depends on the nature of the offense, which applies to drivers of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles.
The Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) outlines three stages of measures for accumulating points. Collecting four to five points results in a formal reprimand and the option to attend a driving aptitude seminar to reduce points. Reaching six to seven points triggers a warning that further violations will lead to license revocation, though points can no longer be reduced at this stage. The final stage occurs at eight or more points, resulting in the mandatory withdrawal of the driving license.
