Germany expands early childhood education and all-day schooling
Germany is implementing several legislative measures to strengthen early childhood education and expand all-day schooling. The CDU/CSU parliamentary group is advocating for a law to improve children's start opportunities and quality in daycare. This includes mandatory nationwide assessments of language and developmental status for children by age four to ensure they receive necessary support before starting school.
In Bavaria, the expansion of all-day educational and care services for primary school students is progressing. Starting with the 2026/2027 school year, first-grade students will have a legal right to all-day care, a right that will expand to include up to the fourth grade by the 2029/2030 school year. The Bavarian state government is providing financial support to municipalities, such as a 90,000 euro grant for a childcare center in Fuchstal, to improve facilities and capacity.
