Germany expands green hydrogen production and infrastructure

Several hydrogen infrastructure developments are underway in Germany. In Mechernich, RVK is expanding into green hydrogen production by constructing an electrolyzer and a refueling station at the future training center for climate-neutral mobility. The electrolyzer is expected to produce 36 kilograms of hydrogen per hour using renewable energy, primarily to supply RVK’s own hydrogen bus fleet while remaining open to the public. The project, supported by approximately €15.1 million in federal funding, is scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2026.

In Hünfeld-Michelsrombach, ABO Energy has sold its H2-Hub Hünfeld to Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH. The facility, which has been operational since 2025, features a 5-MW electrolyzer capable of producing up to 450 tons of green hydrogen annually for fuel cell buses and trucks. The site includes a refueling station and a trailer filling station, utilizing electricity from wind and solar parks. The hub holds a CertifHy EU RNFBO certification, marking it as one of the first facilities in Germany to meet these renewable fuel standards.
