Germany expands tax and parking benefits for disability grade 40 recipients

People in Germany who are classified with a disability grade (Grad der Behinderung, GdB) of 40 can claim additional tax allowances under § 33b of the Income Tax Act. The allowance increases with the severity of the disability, providing a fixed deduction each year to offset higher costs for medication, care and other needs.

The same GdB 40 qualification also entitles holders to an orange disability parking permit. The permit is linked to the person rather than a vehicle and allows parking on designated disabled bays, unlimited use of parking meters, extended stays in restricted zones and other concessions nationwide.
