Germany faces rising antisemitic attacks on synagogues
Germany is facing a rise in antisemitic incidents targeting synagogues and Jewish community centers. A recent report by the Central Council of Jews in Germany indicates that 45 percent of surveyed Jewish communities have been affected by antisemitic attacks.
In Duisburg, state security officials are investigating an incident where antisemitic graffiti, including swastikas and offensive insults, was found on tents and trailers used for a children's festival at the local synagogue. This follows a series of previous incidents in the area, including property damage to a community building in September and swastikas found on a memorial in July.
In response to these growing threats, the Technical University of Braunschweig has launched an interdisciplinary research project titled ‘Hiding in plain sight – Visible Architecture and Unsafe Jews’. The study aims to analyze security from the perspectives of architecture, police protection, and the subjective sense of safety within Jewish communities to better protect buildings and their visitors.
