Taliban delegation enters Germany to facilitate Afghan deportations FAST-MOVING
The German government has permitted a delegation of Taliban representatives to enter the country to facilitate the deportation of Afghan nationals. According to the Federal Foreign Office, this “technical support team” is intended to establish the necessary conditions for issuing travel documents recognized by the de facto government in Kabul.
The three diplomats reportedly entered Germany on 30-day visas issued by the German mission in Qatar and are currently staying at the Afghan embassy in Berlin. They are expected to travel to Bonn and Munich to work at Afghan consulates. This move is part of a government effort to increase deportations, a goal outlined in the coalition agreement.
To date, the Federal Ministry of the Interior reports that 228 Afghan men have been deported during the current legislative period, primarily individuals with criminal records. A recent mass deportation involving 23 people departed from Leipzig/Halle airport toward Kabul. While Germany does not officially recognize the Taliban government, it maintains contact to manage these administrative requirements.
