German traffic authorities state that drivers may wear sunglasses while driving only if the lenses meet Category 3 standards (8‑18 % light transmission) and, where required, are corrected for vision. Non‑conforming lenses can result in a €10 fine, or up to €25 if the glasses lack the necessary prescription. The police also highlight a fire hazard: a reflective sunglass left on a dashboard can focus sunlight and ignite the interior, as recently observed by the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Health officials advise the public on proper sunscreen use to prevent UV‑induced skin damage. Broad‑spectrum products protecting against UVA and UVB rays should be applied at roughly 30 g per full-body application, with reapplication after sweating or swimming. Mineral filters (zinc or titanium dioxide) are generally preferred over certain chemical filters suspected of hormonal effects. Adequate SPF levels depend on skin type and UV index, and the correct amount is essential to achieve the labeled protection factor.
