Germany funds local volunteer initiatives in Westerwald and Gladbeck

The Local Action Group (LAG) Westerwald awarded 40,000 euros in grants to 22 volunteer projects, selected from more than 50 applications received between 2 March and 15 April 2026. Grants of up to 2,000 euros support a range of activities, from environmental education and solar‑lamp installations to a redesigned bus stop and a children’s crafts club.

In Gladbeck, a public vote is underway for the Ehrenamtspreis, which will allocate a total of 3,000 euros to one of seven nominated projects. The nominees cover social, educational and cultural work, such as the parent‑café of the "Sport kann mehr" association and the Malteser dog‑visitation service for seniors and care homes. Voting closes on 6 June, and the prize is co‑financed by the Rheinisch‑Westfälische Wasserwerksgesellschaft and the city.
