Germany health insurance: unclaimed bonuses and dental subsidy changes

Statutory health insurance members in Germany have access to various financial benefits and bonuses that require active claims to receive. One significant upcoming change is scheduled for January 1, 2027, when statutory health insurance providers will reduce the fixed subsidy for dental prosthetics by ten percentage points. Individuals who maintain a complete dental bonus booklet can mitigate this reduction, while those without one must bear the full cost.

Additionally, some health insurance providers offer bonus systems or premium refund tariffs. Under certain elective tariffs, members who do not claim medical services for a year may receive a refund of up to 600 euros, which is capped at one month's contribution. These programs are available to all statutory insured persons, including pensioners and those receiving basic social security (Bürgergeld). While these bonuses reward preventive measures and lack of service claims, they require active participation and documentation by the insured to be realized.
