Germany hosts civic events celebrating democracy

Germany is hosting various civic events focused on democracy. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the Landtag is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a ‘Week of Democracy’ from October 5 to 11. As part of the festivities, the parliamentary building will serve as a canvas for a light installation titled ‘Fundament der Demokratie’ by artists Hartung and Trenz. The installation will feature quotes regarding democracy from prominent figures, including former Vice Chancellor Franz Müntefering and various artists, as well as contributions from school classes across the state.

In Bayreuth, the Stadtjugendring is organizing the ‘Long Night of Democracy’ on October 2 at the Kulturquartier. The event, which is held throughout Bavaria, features a program of music, poetry slams, and art designed to encourage youth engagement and discussion on social coexistence. Activities include a ‘Future Wall’ for community ideas and a ‘Democracy Barometer’ for young people to express their views on participation.
