Germany hosts memorial events regarding Holocaust history

Various memorial events are scheduled in Germany for October and November 2026 to commemorate victims of National Socialism and the transmission of historical trauma.

In Dahn, author and musician Kurt Tallert will hold a musical reading of his book, ‘Spur und Abweg’, on October 23. The event marks the anniversary of the deportation of Jews to Gurs. Tallert’s work explores his family history, including his father’s persecution and his grandfather’s time in Theresienstadt, examining how these experiences impact subsequent generations.

In Bad Kreuznach, a lecture series titled ‘Wir erinnern am …’ will continue in November 2026. Historian Ive Schuster will present on the fate of the Strauß family, a Jewish family from Hüffelsheim that faced social exclusion, deportation, and expropriation during the Nazi era. Schuster will also discuss the post-1945 struggle for restitution by the family's sole survivor. Additionally, psychologist Theresa Weismüller will lecture on the transgenerational transmission of trauma, explaining how experiences from the Nazi era can affect descendants through upbringing and communication.
