Germany hosts regional dementia awareness events
Various regions in Germany are hosting awareness events focused on dementia to support affected individuals and their caregivers.
In the Hannover region, the fifth Dementia Weeks will take place from September 21 to October 9, 2026. The program includes lectures, films, and readings designed to foster interaction between people living with dementia and the community. A central event at the New Town Hall will address housing options for the elderly and how to maintain social participation. Estimates suggest approximately 22,500 people are affected in the Hannover region, a number projected to rise to over 27,000 by 2029.
In Bavaria, the 7th Bavarian Dementia Week will run from September 18 to 27, 2026. Organized by the working group ‘Living with Dementia in Town and Country,’ the series includes expert-led sessions in Erlangen, Herzogenaurach, and Eckental. Topics will cover early symptoms, diagnostic and treatment options, and ethical guidance for difficult decision-making. The initiative aims to increase societal focus on the challenges faced by those living with the condition and their families.
