Germany implements health insurance contribution and dental subsidy changes

Germany is implementing changes to statutory health insurance costs and dental subsidies. Starting August, IKK Classic will increase its supplementary contribution by 0.45 percentage points to 3.85 percent. This brings the total statutory health insurance contribution rate to 18.45 percent. Employees will see a monthly increase of up to 13.08 euros, while self-employed individuals may face increases of up to 26.16 euros. Affected members have a special right of termination until August 31 to switch providers.

Additionally, new regulations under the GKV-Beitragssatzstabilisierungsgesetz will reduce dental subsidies starting January 1, 2027. The general fixed subsidy for standard dental care will drop from 60 percent to 50 percent. Subsidies for those with a bonus booklet will also decrease: the rate for five years of preventive care will fall from 70 to 60 percent, and the ten-year rate will drop from 75 to 65 percent. While hardship regulations continue to protect individuals with very low incomes by covering up to 100 percent of costs, those slightly above the income threshold may face higher out-of-pocket expenses.
