Germany increases recognition of foreign professional qualifications
Germany is seeing a continued rise in the recognition of foreign professional qualifications to address labor shortages, particularly in the medical and care sectors. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 86,600 applications were approved last year, representing a nearly 10 percent increase from the previous year.
Medical professions dominate these recognitions. Nursing specialists accounted for 32,000 approvals, followed by doctors with 13,900 and engineers with 4,600. Together, these three fields represent 58 percent of all recognized qualifications.
Geographically, the highest number of recognized qualifications originated from Turkey (9,800), followed by Ukraine (8,300). Notably, recognitions for qualifications obtained in Syria saw a significant surge of 42 percent compared to the previous year, totaling 6,100. Other significant contributors include India and Tunisia, each with 5,400 recognized professionals.
