Germany implements nationwide alcohol ban at railway stations

A nationwide ban on alcohol consumption has come into effect at all 5,700 railway stations across Germany as of October 15. The measure, implemented by Deutsche Bahn, aims to increase safety for both passengers and staff. The ban applies to all station premises, including platforms and access areas.

While consumption is prohibited, the possession and transport of alcohol remain legal; travelers may carry sealed alcoholic beverages in their luggage or shopping bags. Exceptions include alcohol served in station gastronomy establishments and shops, as well as alcoholic beverages served in Deutsche Bahn's onboard bistros. Consumption of personal alcohol is permitted once inside the trains.

Security personnel will actively monitor compliance, with violators facing potential expulsion from the premises or long-term bans for repeat offenses.
