Eurozone inflation rises as energy costs drive price hikes
Inflationary pressures are rising across several European economies, primarily driven by surging energy and fuel costs. In Germany, the inflation rate rose to 2.9% in August, up from 2.8% in July, fueled by a 10.5% year-on-year increase in energy prices. Consumer prices in Germany saw a monthly increase of 0.2%.
In the Netherlands, inflation climbed to 3.3% in August, following 3.2% in July. This rise was largely due to an 11.7% increase in energy and fuel prices, although food, beverages, and tobacco prices saw a slight decrease of 0.5%.
Across the broader eurozone, headline inflation is projected to reach 3.3% in August, while core inflation is expected to hold steady at 2.5%. These trends have intensified market expectations regarding potential interest rate adjustments by the European Central Bank. In Italy, inflation reached 3.3% in August, while Austria reported a rise to 3.2%.
Other regional data shows Austria's inflation at 3.2% and Italy's at 3.3%. In Rome, local inflation was recorded at 3.2% for July, with significant increases in utilities and transport costs.
