Germany inflation rises to 2.9 percent amid climbing fuel costs
Inflation in Germany has continued to rise, reaching a rate of 2.9 percent in August 2026, up from 2.8 percent in July. Economic forecasts suggest further increases, with LBBW raising its inflation projection for the current year from 2.7 percent to 3.0 percent and forecasting 2.5 percent for 2027.
Fuel prices have also seen a significant uptick. According to ADAC data, the nationwide average for Super E10 rose by 7.6 cents to 2.259 euros per liter, while diesel increased by nearly 9 cents to 2.321 euros per liter. While rising oil prices contribute to these costs, ADAC noted that current fuel prices are reaching new highs despite crude oil prices remaining below previous peaks, prompting calls for greater transparency in pricing.
Economists note that these rising costs disproportionately affect low- and middle-income families, particularly those with high expenditures on fuel and heating oil.
