Germany inflation rises to 2.9 percent in August
Inflation in Germany rose to 2.9 percent in August, according to preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office. This marks an increase from the 2.8 percent growth recorded in July.
Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, rose by 2.4 percent. Energy prices have been a primary driver of the increase, influenced by geopolitical tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which have impacted oil prices.
Economists suggest that even if oil prices stabilize, inflation may remain above the European Central Bank’s 2 percent target as companies pass increased energy costs on to consumers. Fuel prices remain high; according to ADAC, Super E10 gasoline averages 2.153 euros per liter, while diesel averages 2.202 euros per liter. Other factors contributing to high costs include low water levels in the Rhine river and reduced refinery capacities.
