Germany: Innovations and counseling support home care and medical planning
In Germany, resources are being utilized to address the complexities of personal medical planning and home care organization. The Gesundheitsladen München e. V. provides counseling for individuals navigating the creation of living wills (Patientenverfügung) and healthcare proxies (Vorsorgevollmacht). These documents allow individuals to specify desired or refused medical treatments and appoint trusted representatives to act on their behalf in the event of incapacity.
In the realm of practical caregiving, 17-year-old Tom Groß from Betzdorf has developed a digital tool called ‘HomePflegies’ to assist his family in caring for his grandfather, who suffers from dementia. The application, which utilizes artificial intelligence, helps organize medication schedules and coordinate care shifts among family members to reduce administrative burdens. Groß intends to expand the program to include specialized features for dementia support.
