Germany: Footballer arrested for suspected poisoning of teammate
A 35-year-old amateur footballer, Marius V., has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally poisoning and killing his 30-year-old teammate, Philipp L., during a club trip to Dresden in June 2025.
The incident occurred during a season-ending excursion for the club TuS Rockenberg. While the team initially suspected food poisoning from fish consumed during the trip, forensic examinations and an autopsy revealed that the death was caused by sepsis and multi-organ failure resulting from the ingestion of a toxic substance.
Chief Prosecutor Thomas Hauburger stated that investigators believe the motive was personal revenge. While local reports suggest a dispute between the two players regarding a woman, authorities have not officially confirmed this detail. The specific substance used and the method of administration remain undisclosed. The club has expressed profound shock at the events, noting they are still reeling from the sudden loss of their teammate.
