Germany lengthens traffic‑fine enforcement period to six months

Effective 1 July, German authorities will extend the statutory limitation period for many traffic violations from three to six months. The change, driven by state governments to relieve overloaded penalty offices, means that drivers cited for speeding, running red lights, tail‑gating, using a phone while driving and similar offenses will face twice as much time before a fine claim becomes time‑barred.

At the same time, the popular traffic‑alert app Blitzer.de Pro received a new “DriveCast” feature. The update, rolled out on 18 June, adds audio stories, quizzes and local guides about nearby towns and landmarks, aiming to entertain drivers while they receive real‑time alerts about speed cameras, accidents and congestion.
