Germany mandates military medical exams for 18-year-old men
Germany has implemented a law requiring all 18-year-old men born after December 31, 2007, to undergo mandatory military medical examinations to assess their fitness for service. While responding to questionnaires regarding interest in joining the military is voluntary for women, it is mandatory for men.
The requirement applies even to men who have explicitly stated they have no interest in joining the armed forces. A spokesperson for the Defence Ministry confirmed that approximately 1,000 men who expressed no interest in the army have already undergone these exams since July.
The policy has triggered significant student protests across Germany, fueled by anger over the mandatory nature of the medical assessments for those who have opted out of military service via registration forms.
