Germany marks Berlin Wall anniversary with extensive documentary programming

On August 13, the year‑long anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s construction, Germany’s public broadcaster ZDF aired a night‑long series of documentaries exploring the history and legacy of the German division. The programming began with "Deutschland ’61 – Countdown zum Mauerbau" and continued with episodes of "Terra X History", "37°" and other films that examined life in the DDR, the experiences of border guards, political prisoners and ordinary families split by the wall.

In parallel, ARD released the documentary "Wir Kinder der Mauer" by Kristin Siebert and Christian von Brockhausen, which focuses on the children and teenagers who grew up under the wall from 1961 to 1989, detailing how the separation shaped their lives, families and identities.
