Germany military service assessments spark SDAJ criticism
During a meeting of the SDAJ, Federal Chair Andrea Hornung addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the reintroduction of compulsory military service in Germany. She highlighted the experiences of young individuals, such as an 18-year-old from Kiel, who received a summons for assessment and physical examination by the Bundeswehr despite expressing no interest in military service.
The SDAJ criticizes the Bundeswehr for using terminology like “summons to participate in assessment and physical examination,” which implies a mandatory obligation rather than a voluntary process. This testing is part of efforts in Schleswig-Holstein to prepare for potential nationwide compulsory service, as Germany aims to achieve military readiness by 2029.
