Cybersecurity market faces rising AI threats and regulatory pressure

The cybersecurity landscape is facing significant shifts due to evolving threats and new regulatory requirements. In Germany, the GDV reports that only about 5 percent of companies are covered by cyber insurance, despite a 15.7 percent increase in contracts in 2025. Many businesses fail to meet the minimum IT security standards required for coverage, such as regular updates and reliable backups.

Simultaneously, the implementation of the EU's NIS2 directive is forcing companies to integrate information security management systems (ISMS) into their daily operations to manage risks and personal liability. The rise of artificial intelligence is further complicating the environment by drastically reducing the time between the discovery of a vulnerability and its exploitation, sometimes shrinking the window to just a few hours.

Market analysts at Swiss Re note that while cyber insurance premiums are expected to grow, reaching an estimated $17.1 billion by 2027, the market faces challenges from increased competition and the need to expand into underserved segments like small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
