Germany outlines tax, mobility and service discounts for people with disability rating GdB 100

The German "Grad der Behinderung" (GdB) rates the impact of a disability on daily life on a scale from 20 to 100. A GdB of 100 is the highest level and automatically classifies a person as severely disabled under § 2 SGB IX. Eligible individuals can receive a disability tax allowance of up to €2,840 per year, with a higher €7,400 allowance for certain Merkzeichen such as H (helpless), Bl (blind) or TBl (totally blind). Additional benefits may include reduced vehicle‑related expenses and other mobility concessions.

For people with a GdB of 50 or more, a Schwerbehindertenausweis (severe disability ID card) is issued, granting access to various concessions. Among them, Amazon Prime offers a reduced subscription price of €4.49 per month for qualifying users, compared with the standard €8.99 rate. The specific advantages depend on the Merkzeichen indicated on the disability ID, which denote the type and severity of the impairment.
