Germany: Parking regulations and potential fines for drivers

Drivers in Germany face various fines and penalties for violating parking regulations. Key rules include the prohibition of parking in 'dooring stripes' and the requirement to park on the right side of the roadway, except in specific cases like one-way streets or near tram tracks.

Parking in a second row is prohibited and carries a minimum fine of 55 euros, with higher penalties and points on a driving record if other road users, such as cyclists, are obstructed. Parking in narrow areas (less than 3.05 meters of clearance) or on steep slopes can also result in fines. Additionally, using a parking disc incorrectly—such as adjusting it after the permitted time has expired—can lead to fines ranging from 20 to 40 euros depending on the duration of the violation.

Drivers must also ensure parking discs are set to the next half-hour increment and placed visibly in the window.
