Germany hosts free public skywatch events for summer 2026 eclipse and meteors

On 12 August 2026 a partial solar eclipse will be visible over Berg, Germany, with up to 90 % coverage around 20:16 UTC. The local observatory will offer free telescope viewing from 19:00 UTC, and stresses safety: “Never look at the sun without proper protection.” After the eclipse, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak, and the public can watch shooting stars from the same site.

Earlier, at the end of July 2026, several meteoroid streams – the Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids – will reach their maximum on the night of 30 July into 31 July. Up to 25 meteors per hour are expected, though the full Moon will reduce visibility. Observers are encouraged to find dark sky locations to enjoy the combined meteor displays.
