Germany progresses major bridge renovation projects
The Water Management Office in Donauwörth is dismantling the overbuilt plate of the old Danube bridge at Schäfstall. Sections are cut, lifted and environmentally removed with a mobile crane and specialized equipment, while a partial rebuild with new supports and wildlife mitigation measures proceeds.
In eastern Bavaria near Gefrees, the State Construction Office of Bayreuth is replacing two bridges over the Kornbach on state road 2180. Demolition is under way, the schedule aims for early‑December 2026 completion, and after a theft of a construction power cable the site will be equipped with video surveillance. Traffic is rerouted around the works.
