Germany proposes driving license reform to cut costs
The German government is pursuing a reform of the driving instructor law to reduce the rising costs of obtaining a driver's license. Following debates in the Bundestag, the proposed changes aim to lower expenses for students by up to 1,000 euros, depending on the region and required driving hours.
A key component of the reform involves reducing the number of mandatory driving and theory lessons. Specifically, the plan proposes allowing theoretical knowledge to be acquired entirely through self-study via online platforms or apps, effectively eliminating the requirement for in-person classroom instruction.
