German Deputy Foreign Minister Serap Güler met with Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi on October 24, 2026, to discuss the security crisis in the eastern DRC. Germany has offered to act as a neutral mediator to facilitate communication between parties, proposing to coordinate its efforts with the United States and Qatar to advance peace processes in the Great Lakes region.

During the meeting, Güler emphasized that Rwanda's security concerns do not justify violations of international law or infringements on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC. The discussions also addressed strengthening bilateral relations, including cooperation in economic, cultural, and health sectors. This includes potential private investments and German technical and financial support to combat the Ebola epidemic currently affecting the country.

Additionally, the meeting touched upon the institutional establishment of the Goethe Institut in the DRC and reinforced the importance of diplomatic coordination between Kinshasa and Berlin.
