Germany raises Minijob monthly earnings limit to 633 euros
Germany is increasing the monthly earnings limit for ‘Minijob’ (marginal employment) from 603 euros to 633 euros. This change, driven by the rise in the statutory minimum hourly wage from 13.90 euros to 14.60 euros, allows workers to earn an additional 30 euros per month.
The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) notes that the threshold is legally tied to minimum wage fluctuations. For workers earning the minimum wage, the maximum number of monthly hours remains at 43.4. However, those with higher hourly rates may be able to work slightly more hours to reach the new 633 euro limit.
Under this arrangement, the full amount remains ‘net’ for the employee due to flat-rate taxation handled by the employer and exemption from pension insurance obligations. This adjustment is particularly relevant for many workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina residing in Germany who use these roles to supplement their income.
